Mentoring Thread: Week-210

Hello. I watched your review and here is what I think. Teleport mid lane against an Annie is a bad choice of summoner spells. Usually you take tp to match the enemy laners tp or if you are a champ that tp is good on like LB and Ekko that can actually utilize to help sidelanes. All you used it for was to get to lane quicker. If you have good recalls and wave management you won't need to get back to lane fast. Push the wave into enemy tower as fast as possible, which is very easy with Orianna, recall and walk back to lane. You won't miss any cs because Annie isn't a fast pushing champion. Other summoner spells I would recommend on Orianna are Ignite for being aggressive, Ghost because it can be used both offensively (to chase/engage) or defensively (to run away), barrier, exhaust against ad midlaners like Talon or Zed. Or you could stick with TP but realize Teleport is more than just a tool to get back to your lane.

At level one you should take E and look to trade autoattacks with Annie since she took DFT. You can walk up hit her once shield yourself so you don't take too much damage from minions/her auto attacks and keep autoing to proc your thunderlords and then back off. Should be free, safe harass onto her. As Orianna all your abilities outrange her and you have a shield so you should position aggressively and look to zone her off of minions. Use your q and w and autos to poke her whenever she comes up to cs. If she trades with you use your shield. You should win every trade before level 6. Contest every cs Annie wants to get. You should never play so far forward (hitting the enemy tower) unless you know where the enemy jungler is, your jungler is near your lane to help if you get ganked, you have wards in both rivers so you can see if you're getting ganked, or if you know you can 1vs2 the enemy jungler and mid laner. Just push your wave into their tower and either recall, look to roam, or just back off and let the waves reset. Its a huge risk that you took walking up that far into the lane and hitting the Annie's tower and you paid for it by dying to the Sejuani gank. You were up in gold the entire laning phase but you could have had an even bigger lead if you learned how to harass and poke properly. Orianna's ability range is pretty big therefore Annie should never be able to wlak up and cs without losing a chunk of her health. Another thing is to never sit on large amounts of gold. Push your lane, easy to do with Orianna, recall and spend that gold. Extend your lead by getting item advantages over your opponent making you even stronger. After the laning phase I saw a few things you could improve on. In soloq you need to tell your team what to do. You had a pretty big gold lead on Annie ~1500 gold and were really strong. Ping objectives tell your team to group. Look for teamfights since you are strong. This is how you guys fell apart. Your team would get a pick or win a fight and then just split apart and go farm. Ping towers, or baron or something. Take control of the game. Obviously don't flame them or spam ping to piss them off. But saying "guys lets group" or just dropping a ping or two on baron or a tower is all it takes sometimes. Besides that you got caught out a few times late game. And you kept using your ult on people who aren't the priority target. I saw you use your ult on Sejuani or Annie / others a few times when it was 100% Jhin carrying the game. You were so strong he had 0 MR you could one shot him. So learn to poke/play aggresively in lane, learn how to shotcall and take control of your team, and learn when to use your ult/save it to kill priority champions on the enemy team. I think that was everything hopefully this is helpful to you even if just a little.
