Merkel: Germany has not done enough to hit Paris climate targets

Apparently, they have been looking at nuclear fission in China. Fusion might already be obsolete. However, I get nervous looking at all of this stuff, because the human species has a tendency to use powerful new inventions in the worst way possible.

You are confused, you have mixed up fusion and fission. Fusion is not yet viable and while amazing it doesnt appear it will be functional for quite a while, we havent managed to make it self sustaining or generate more power than it takes to power itself yet. Fission is what we use right now. Fusion cannot be used to make weapons at least not directly and fusion plants cannot explode. Every major country has been looking at fusion for decades.

There was a hemp battery being developed that would rule out some of the mining but it's in development. I'd put my money on that

There's a good reason you heard about "hemp batteries" rather than "graphitic carbon batteries" and it has nothing to do with their use as a battery, people who smoke weed love hearing about hemp used anywhere it will fit. Hemp is no better than any other plant for making graphitic carbon batteries and graphitic carbon batteries are magnitudes worse in energy density than what we use commonly today. Almost every source mentioning them cite the same youtube video and those that dont cite it shit on them as an meme battery. Hemp batteries are a novetly toy for people who base their personality around weed or natural/organic living.

We won't agree because you appear to be trying to find a way to carry on as usual with a different energy source and I'm trying to figure out a way to hugely degrow without removing the services that people really want and need.

Its admirable that you want to live with less consistent power and to "degrowth" our energy but thats not something any country will accept unless forced. Especially with global warming, maybe an hour isnt so long for you to be without power but what about for someone who lives in a desert that gets hot enough to give you heatstroke in the day and cold enough to give you hypothermia in the night. An hour with the temperature fluctuating like that is a very long time to be without heating/cooling in that situation.

When have people ever agreed to downsize their life volentarily, if one company offers electric whenever is convienient and another offers it 24/7 it's obvious which one will end up out of business. If your government manadates that electricity companies cannot use anything but renewable there will be riots once people realise how long they will spend without electric. Humanity does not move backwards by choice, only by force. The only degrowth I believe you'll see will happen whenever climate change is already killing millions and only because it will be forced at that point.

nuclear waste planted underground next to the organic farm.

Nuclear waste is not stored on land that could be used as farmland, its meant to be stored in the least desirable areas to enter or settle and that includes land useful for farming.

As you've said I dont think we'll see eye to eye on this but if you are actually interested in battery tech that could make your vision a reality check out molten salt storage, this is my last response.
