Merkel May Agree To Legalize Marijuana In Germany Under Coalition Deal -- Members of a potential German coalition government, including the party of Chancellor Angela Merkel, are nearing agreement on a deal to legalize marijuana, reports indicate.

Legalizing a drug that is not yet well researched is very dangerous. I can now imagine all school kids roaming around and smoking pot. The chance of developing psychological addiction to Marijuana is much greater in comparison to Alcohol (My own experience).

I am sure there are better ways for the government to make money other than legalizing dangerous drugs.

Smoke weed every once in a while could be harmless, but smoking it on a daily basis means that your brain will be stuck and you won't function normally anymore (There are exceptions to this rule for sure).

I personally am in favor for decriminalizing possession of weed and introduce lighter sentences for weed dealers. Legalizing weed will transform the production/consumption substantially because millions of people will decide to start smoking what is considered legal.

The solution to drug problems is education and not legalizing or grand punishments. Legalizing drugs without having a very well informed population (especially the young one) will as always backfire.

TD;LR:

  • Spend some money on educating the public about drugs in general (Especially school kids).

  • Introduce lighter sentences to weed dealers (This is less counterproductive from an economic point of view).

*Decriminalize weed possession and allow smoking in specific public places(No more criminal records for having a few grams of weed with you).
