Have you met anyone that was always just a lucky break away from something great but never got it? What was their story?

My husband was on the path to becoming a rockstar. Hottest bands in town, everyone loved them. The lead singer was amazing but an ass and no one could deal with him. One day said singer stole a car to sell for heroin, got into a police chase, rolled the car and died. Husband got another band going, back on the A list. Singer died of heroin overdose. Flash forward a few years, he marries a lady who has two kids from previous marriage. Ex husband says he'll see the house burn before they get it, two weeks later house burns down. Insurance company pays off mortgage and buildy new house. Three years later stupid bitch gives her 12 year old son a barbecue lighter. He's burning plastic on the front porch, burns down the house. Insurance company basically says fuck off. He says ok we'll turn the 4 car garage into a house until we figure out what to do. He does this, during which time the trailer they were staying in catches fire, the dishwasher he installs catches fire. He ends up having to get shoulder surgery due to injury at work, while he's on serious painkillers, wife packs up kids and leaves. He cannot contact her for four years, finally he says fuck it and files for divorce. He does everything the court requires, never hears from her, court rules in his favor, he puts property up for sale. Two weeks later he gets a cease and desist from her attorney. Divorce is overruled. They go to court, he's not allowed to present any evidence, she wins it all. Yeah.
