Met this douchebag on my delivery rounds the other day. Fuck this guy.

OK, I'll have a look at Google maps on my phone. I've not had a smartphone for very long and didn't realise it worked like that. You learn something new every day.

Who do I work for? A delivery company, obviously. I've worked for a few and in each case the routes are preplanned with arrival times at the customers' doors provided. If the company is offering deliveries within a certain time frame then the customer is likely paying extra for the service. If a customer is paying extra for a delivery to arrive within a very narrow time slot then I'm expected to get it there on time. Failure to do so reflects negatively on me as an employee and on the company as a whole and leaves us open to compensation claims from dissatisfied customers.

Under normal, general circumstances I totally understand the whole not being by your phone all the time thing and I totally get the call screening thing. Shit, man, I screen calls myself. I ignore unrecognised calls myself. I delete voicemails without listening to them beyond the first few seconds if it's someone I don't recognise. I'm not always stuck with my phone in my hand/pocket. I get it. No one likes cold calls. They're a pain in the arse.

Unless, that is, I've put myself in a position where I can reasonably expect a call from a certain specified someone at a certain specified time in which case I make sure my phone's on and accessible and that I'm paying enough attention to know if it's ringing or not.

I've tried leaving voicemails before. Usually all I get in response is 'Oh, I've not checked my phone yet/today' when I finally get to the door. I think it's a courtesy/respect thing, or rather the lack thereof. Leaving a voicemail is not a guarantee that the recipient listens to it immediately, which in this situation is what I'd need them to do. Calling me back half an hour or so later when they have checked is no good because I could be miles out of their way by then having decided that they're not available for delivery. I can't spend too long trying to find/contact them because I have other customers to deliver to. A failed time-specific delivery is bad but it's better than twelve failed time-specific deliveries.
