Here's the thing and an example, /r/dirtykikpals had a huge problem with catfish and fakes. The most easy way was a simple, ask for pic to prove. That turned into fake apss could fake the 'camera' symbol and a 'gallery' pic was picked instead, not a live 'camera'.

What you do to counter?

Faith and hope. You just gotta accept some faith on other end. You can try and probe for questions that only a girl would know/answer, but that can go down a path thats just odd or cringe, esp if both are wanting a naughty chat quickly or non-RP.
