[meta] #WaterNFS #WaterNotForSale are beginning to trend on twitter.

We've had discussions before PP. (/u/ishouldbeselling) is my 9-5.

I think you hit the nail - should we be selling water at all? Bottle water consumption is mainly a first world thing, areas in which it isn't scarce. Areas in which laziness is common. You don't see people in Africa, India, Ecuador, or less developed nations drinking bottled water. So the ownest is on us; North-Americans, Europeans. Mainly.

It's our duty to prevent this.

"Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it." - George Santayana, Let's reflect on any finite resource we've taken to market; plastics, oil, helium etc. These have all had massive, drastic, consequence on the environment and people. Yet, they aren't something we need to leave. They are things we want in life.

So if we mistreat this finite resource we are all, to be frank, fucked. Your absolutely right - our wildlife doesn't have TFSAs, they aren't going to be able to have access to water if it's sold from (quite literally) underneath our feet. How will this effect an eco-system? The food chain?

Yes. Water should most absolutely be a human right. Water makes-up more than 50% of the human body. Would water amongst society become a tradable commodity? Does that not imply that water would have regulations? Should water have regulations? It's the one and only thing that keeps us alive.

Nestle doesn't. If their mandate was 'Hey BC, you guys have plenty of water. I think it would beneficial to the world if we could supply that to less developed nations. Can you give it to us for pennies on the dollar? We will put it in hemp-based environmental friendly disposable bottles and delivery them around the world" -- that I could get behind.

Plastic is a whole nother' conversation.

I'm sure this sentence next will piss of most, but it's based on the principle of 'cut off the head and the body will die'. The problem is our capitalist mentality. We shouldn't be profiteering this heavily - off of anything. We as a global society should be doing what's best for society. (Insert right-based counter) Fair. I see your point and argument. But this goes above and beyond contemporary politics and 'sides'. Our political views and values will be meaningless if our dystopian future allows water to some and none to others.
