[META] We're trialling turning off downvotes, based on your feedback

Bullet points again, for ease of read:

We take action when you report it. We haven't had one single report of harassment for as long as I can remember. The general system is you modmail us, we see it, we ask for proof if you didn't provide any if it happened in PM, or if it happened in comments, we take a look. The user is banned, that's as far as our powers extend.

When?

When you tell us

How?

All we can do is ban. We cannot suspend accounts, that's down to the admins, who you can find at /r/reddit.com I believe.

Numerous repeat offenders

Modmail us with names and evidence, we will act. If it's someone causing an issue, and we get mail about it, the issue will be followed up as soon as it is seen.

How long does as response take?

Until it is seen. We do this in our spare time. I check modmail between lectures and after my day ends. If I'm online when something happens, my response time tends to be quick. If I'm not here, someone else will see it. We aren't here all the time, we are on different timezones but we all have lives and families. We're people. Treat us that way.

They should just use the block button?

What else can we do? We can't prevent them from PMing you. How far do you actually think our powers extend? We moderate content on the sub. That's it. We don't moderate reddit as a whole. If we could do more, we would, unfortunately we can't. We ban a guy, he comes harassing us in modmail, we mute him, it happens often.

How long does it take?

I don't know. That's not my area. Again, I moderate /r/r4r, nothing else. The site is out of my powers.

Feel safe and comfortable

This isn't an office space where guys walk up to her and we're asking her to ignore him. A guy can't interact with her unless she makes herself known. So what if someone gets offended? Get offended. Why do people act like getting offended is a bad thing? This isn't a safe space for you.

Everyone has freedom to post. Everyone. We don't reserve that right for women and minorities. Again, not a safe space.

Ridding this sub of them

Through censorship? We ban people who break the rules, nothing more, nothing less. We tried to censor comments, when we do stuff on opinion it become censorship and people get angry. It happened not too long ago with comments, when a bunch were getting removed, and many, many people complained. We had so many modmails about it.

Perpetually angry

Because of people like you complaining about things out of our control. I can't go into people's houses and stop them posting, I remove when I see something wrong. It takes up time in my day, I have to spend time I could be using to do other stuff replying to you.

Responsibility on women to shut up and endure humiliation

Give me an example. I never said shut up, I said mail us, tell us about it. Actually tell us instead of white knighting on this META.

Women have such piss-poor expectations

You spend a whole, giant ass comment defending them, just to demean the entirety of the female species right at the end. Real classy, man.

Another cop out. THIS IS YOUR JOB

Christ, so you give us problems, and absolutely no solutions? You think these are issues, I asked you how I should adapt to change, you give no response.

As for being my job, you clearly don't know what a job is. A job you get paid for. I spend hours of my time moderating for free. I volunteer. I do this because I care about the subreddit, and the freedom for everybody to post.

Plenty of others

Actually there's not that many of us active. Some of the people listed don't help out, they either are busy with their lives, or simply chose to leave. That's fine, but don't make it sound like this is easy going.

Enabling shitty men

What? I don't get this logic. I can't just remove something because I think the guy is an ass. If you decide a post is shit, that's your opinion, someone else might think otherwise. When you moderate content, you leave your opinion at the door, and focus on the actual rules for submissions.
