Mic to use with iPhone on a gimbal

that sort of square (or other shape) is what old farts like me call a "fig" rig :) Great for steadying up your shaky hands!!!

if the camera is always going to be close to your face then an on-rig mic "might" work I guess.... the pop / wind filter / "dead cat" is essential outdoors for sure.

phone video these days is outstanding in decent light - just bear that in mind if the lighting isn't good EG in a garage etc....

if you have a second / unused / old phone with a standard TRRS "headphone jack" , and have $60 to burn, I really like the Rode SmartLav lapel mics - they plugin to the headphone socket and you drop the phone in your pocket to capture the audio

this keeps the mic a constant distance from your face no matter where you put the camera, freeing you up to put the cam on a stand / somewhere a little ways from you, in the cabin away from you and still get awesome audio...
