Michigan Ranks 11th In Bicyclist Deaths

I was actually about to post a submission ranting about the motorists here, but I guess instead I'll just rant here.

I come from CO where cycling is widely accepted and I used to commute to work 30 miles round-trip almost every single day. I can count the number of times on one hand where I had to deal with raging motorists. It happens, but not that often. One instance was clearly my fault, but usually it's people who just don't like cyclists.

Fast-forward to now where I'm now in MI. What the fuck is wrong with you people, seriously? When I say 'you people' I mean the ragers - what the hell is your problem?

I have only been on three road bike rides so far this year and every single time I've had to deal with shitty motorists, and on two rides I had multiple instances, one of those rides occurred just now.

I'm not even riding on highway frontage roads or anything, I always take the 35 MPH side roads. On the ride I just now finished I only rode 7.5 miles - all side roads. I had three assholes yell at me.

The first one was just "HEY!" that someone screamed at me as they passed 1 foot away. The second instance someone screamed "GET OFF THE FUCKING ROAD!", and the third instance was the worst - some asshole screamed "I'LL RUN YOU OFF THE ROAD FAGGOT" as he crept by, so I yelled back "CALM DOWN!", so then he peeled around and said "YOU WANT TO GET SHOT MOTHERFUCKER!?" and then sped off. I couldn't get a license plate, but hopefully the police locate him with the identifying marks (though I doubt they'll do a damn thing).

I ride as far to the right as I possibly can, I obey all the traffic laws, is it really that damn hard to turn your steering wheel 10 degrees to the left, and then 10 degrees back to the right? Is it that hard? I'm not riding in high traffic areas where I'm getting in the way.

Good thing I carry concealed because you motherfuckers are CRAZY! To the people who feel the need to scream at cyclists - calm the fuck down!
