I agree, it's completely skewed by age...and I commented on that. The starting pay is obviously going to be lower than someone who has a Master's in education or has over 10+ yrs in teaching.

Again, $40k/yr is more than double the amount that the average Michgander makes at $20/k yr, and that's comparing side by side - person by person. That's "a lot of money" comparing the two, more than double.

Do I think they should be paid even more than now? That's a separate issue than what I discussed. I think they get paid twice as much as the average working person, as shown by data, and thus it's "a lot more".

So, I'll reserve my sympathy for the person making $20k/yr rather than the brand new teacher making $40/k yr.
