The world is edging towards authoritarianism because it's the only form of government that allows society wide solutions to be imposed to deal with the increasing new pressure the world faces. Democracy will never cut as it keeps out churning ineffective half measures put in place to try and placate the masses who are punch drunk on the illusion that nothing is more important than personal freedom and choice. We keep seeing how authoritarian regimes can quickly move their ships of state to face disasters as they appear. Also, keep in mind that the business form is based in authoritarianism. It works towards tyranny, because that is what is most advantageous. You labor relationships aren't mediated by democracy for a very good reason.
