Microsoft's Idea of "Developers who Do"

I hate the idea.

It teaches basic logic at best, NOT programming.

When i was young, i was very interested in learning about computers and programming. But of course there was no one around to teach me even the basics.

First i started of with some kind of basic, i don't remember the exact variant. I could not really progress with it. So i spent a lot of time to look for visual code editors. At the time there was not much in that way, only with very limited capabilities.

First there was Logo with Turtle Graphics. It was nice, and nice to draw graphics with it, but i didn't really understand programming.

Then Delphi and Visual basic followed. I was still not programming. Just hooking up actions to buttons... well you can call it programming, but it didn't feel like it.

A had a start with a few other simple languages. But i never felt like i know what was happening, i could do simple thing like have a sprite and it with the keyboard. But is still had no idea how it would be possible to build real software.

After that i took a little break. A few years later i picked up a copy of K&R The C programming language. I had no idea what i was reading, but i really liked it, it was exciting, because it didn't want to shield me from how the computers work. At that point was when i really felt like i understood the basics of programming, and i could at least imagine how a big software, like Word could even work , without black magic.

Simple English text is much easier than understand than colorful boxes and lines. You can draw your program like a graph, but it's much harder to interpret that, then code, that, if you know the symbols reads pretty much like English text, if it doesn't than you such at naming variables.
