[Middlebrooks] Everyone mad that Stro made sure he got his service time before opting out needs to realize that teams do this to players all the time. Waiting to call kids up... sending them down, to get an extra year of control/avoid arbitration. It’s a business. Period.

There are dozens of players who haven’t opted out after getting their final year of service time. We have pretty explicit evidence disproving your claim that everyone will do this. Why pretend there are no contrary arguments?

There’s an obvious violation of good faith, something one could literally call unsporting behavior. That word exists in the English language for a reason.

It’s not complicated to figure out why people can, for example, dislike owner lead contract manipulation without embracing a pure quasi Marxist “labor v capital” framing. You’re simply demanding the ONLY lens one can look at sports is via that sort of players as labor as an ideological sense. Those are obviously not the only values that we engage with in sports.

I also don’t know if your general analogy holds given that it would be an example of me using a neat trick to put myself in a more secure financial situation by sort of screwing over my coworkers and having them pick up the slack I had committed to carry.
