Midsommar disturbed me in a way I didn't expect

Thank you! This is one of my favourite horror movies of all time and also deeply affected me.

Like yourself, I was also disturbed/annoyed by the number of people who think Dani has a happy ending. They seem to think, “oh she has a family now, they truly understand her, empathize with her and give her a community” but it’s like, no dude, they’re some primitive, rapey, murder cult that found a vulnerable person at the worst possible time and took advantage of her vulnerability to grow their cult.

The whole thing is cult 101. Find a vulnerable person who feels alone, misunderstood or alienated, offer them a sense of community and warmth, assure them that only the cult truly understands them and appreciates them, no one else will care for them the way the cult does, make them complicit to something horrible, so it’s damn near impossible for them to leave without facing consequences for the things they were involved in thereby ensuring that a normal life outside the cult is made all but impossible.

Also, Christians a dick…but like…a believable, grounded dick. We all know someone like him, or maybe we even were him at some point! He’s a disinterested, selfish boyfriend who was about to end it with Dani anyway but, like a lot of people probably would, decided to hold off on the break because HER WHOLE FAMILY SUDDENLY UNEXPECTEDLY DIED!

Marks like, a little ignorant I guess and Josh seems mostly fine?

I really do not understand the large number of people who were like “Yahhhh Christian a piece of fucking shit! He’s disgusting! He got what was coming to him!”. Like, he should be drugged, raped, and burned alive for being a lacklustre boyfriend and a little selfish? What??

Also, fuck those murderous fascist manipulative cult pieces of shit. Mark peeing on their tree was anti-fascist praxis! [im kind of joking but seriously, fuck “nice guy” Pelle and his tree]
