Time Warner Cable is just as bad. My only options in my neighborhood are AT&T (Fastest they offer is 25 down/5 up) so I went with Time Warner to get 300 down 25 up. Apparently I can't get Verizon Fios in my neighborhood because AT&T bought out the right to exclusively sell their services in my area. I think paying money to rent a crappy modem/router combo is a ripoff so I've owned my own modem/router for awhile now. One time after weeks of getting 20 down instead of 100 (at the time at 100/25), I got a tech to come out. They told me that my modem had been damaged by a storm because they tested signal coming into the house on their tool and it works fine. They can't troubleshoot my modem because I own it. He told me I needed to buy a new modem so I did because I was tired of paying for service I'm not getting. A year later I have the same issue... I get a senior tech to come out and he tells me it's not possible for the modem to be damaged by a storm because the coaxial cable is grounded outside the house... Then I tell Time Warner I need to move the modem from my bedroom to the living room and there is a Coax outlet but the modem doesn't work there. They tell me I need to pay $90 for a wallfish. I said OK and they sent a contractor who barely speaks English... So this guy drills a hole outside my house through the brick and runs a Coax cable outside my house.. fine. He created an outlet that is 6 inches out of place with every other outlet in my house. On top of that the outlet is horizontal instead of vertical. I refused to pay the $90 but now I'm stuck with this terrible looking outlet in the house I own.
