MIL Wants me to replace all the receptacles. GFCI. I've never installed outlets with USB and she'd like a few of those in her office and convenient places. The house is wired with romex and a lot of it needs support too.. What would you all recommend? Stupid question but she's willing to pay 20 per

Sounds like you'll be fine. Service work isn't bad, but make sure you do some time with residential/industrial service work before you commit. You be in some disgusting hoarder homes and nightmare factories from hell that you are convinced will burn to the ground at any moment, and a large amount of your time will be spent trying to figure out what some guy did wrong 60 years ago. Outside of a select few cities in the US with odd code requirements, EMT won't come up much in resi. Outside of paradise, residential jobs will rarely if ever have accurate plans/blueprints unless the house is fairly new (and you generally won't be doing service calls to new ones).

The last and most important thing to note if you want to do service work (this is true to all sectors, but especially true to residential) is to remember YOU are the expert. Homeowners and store owners are looking to you to fix their issues and give them what they need because they trust your skills and abilities, and they don't know what to do in this situation. Any time a trade worker has to come in, people are already nervous about how much it is going to cost and in a bit of a vulnerable spot. This puts spot to be one of those piece of shit electricians who will scare them into doing unnecessary work or try to convince them to do things that are overkill so you can make a few extra bucks (or your boss can). This also puts you in the spot to be a good electrician/better person and tell them the truth and try to save them as much money as you can. The guys who screw people at every turn are the reason people are scared to call electricians and they give us all a bad name. Being honest and not trying to oversell people who don't know any better will leave you feeling like you actually made a difference, and it will build you a die hard customer base..... and that whole soapbox was about the GFCI outlets everywhere. She doesn't need them, this is your chance to go practice talking a customer out of an pointless and expensive endeavor. Just throw one on the first outlet in each string and it is literally no different (all still GFCI protected). Saves her nearly $1000 in outlet costs
