MIL with dementia has a "surprise roommate".

So, the police won't help, the locks won't work, and other people are showing bizarre behavior... I strongly suspect this is another case of /r/legaladvice encouraging a person's delusions. First of all, the term "mild cognitive impairment" applies at the early stages and the term "dementia" is reserved for moderate/severe cases. It is typically not diagnosed at early stages, especially in people that live alone. Furthermore, if it were mild then OP wouldn't be trying to redo the housing situation. Families often remain in denial about dementia for a long time, which I strongly suspect given OP's emotional response and lack of understanding that visual symptoms alone don't qualify you for that diagnosis. Even their verbage is suspect. People don't mention irrelevant medical details, like granny's hypertension, and the use of "very" four times makes me think thou protest too much.

Oh well, it looks like the mods deleted every post that pointed this out. I suppose verifying a person actually exists before starting legal eviction proceedings isn't necessary or important. Next month on /r/legaladvice -- we received a summary judgement because the illegal tenant didn't show up in court, but they still won't leave and the police quit answering our calls because they're never in the house when they show up or when I visit my MIL. Replacing the locks didn't help. What do we do now?

(Is it possible this is a weird way to exploit an elderly person? Sure. Is it likely? Not at all. Anyone in healthcare can tell you how common situations like this happen.)
