Military Survey: Troops want Trump over Clinton by a huge margin!

Eh, I'll be honest. 2004-2014. So Bush and Obama presidencies, with Republican- and Democrat-controlled congresses. There wasn't anything different at any meaningful level. Most of the people who believe things got worse under Obama are people who wanted to believe it.

VA healthcare wasn't solved. No apology for Obama here, he has the power to make sweeping changes, maybe can't guarantee anything but more certainly could be done.

Women in combat arms is thorny... but so far, they are being forced to adhere to male standards so I can't objectively complain.

Civilians/pre-2009 vets freaking out about increased death by powerpoint (ie the EO officers bringing up privilege or whatever in a slide that most people will forget in a few hours) as a sign of indoctrination of the military. Hint: we've always had retarded CBTs and powerpoints that mysteriously crop up in frequency after a statistical increase in sexual assaults or racial incidents or etc.

I won't get into specifics of Libya and Syria because, to be honest, I know it will turn to aimless argument from people with an agenda to grind vs someone like me who has actually lived this shit beyond the news cycle.

"Downsizing the military" is a total red herring, from the strategic standpoint. The major driving factor behind downsizing was the formal combat exit from Afghanistan--something like 10-15% of the military IIRC. Yes, you need continuity in the form of people, yes, you need a "field" of people to cultivate and promote as future conflicts arrive, but our military and any competent military has always been about managing personnel continuity and temporary influxes of lower enlisted and commissions for emerging conflicts. Casual newsreaders seemed to think this somehow limited our strategic balance. I can tell you from experience--the first people to be let go under the formal downsizing programs were the people with terrible performance records or several UCMJ actions. And then people who weren't so hot and had more of a choice to fight to stay in or accept a voluntary separation package. Essential manning fields were not cut in this downsizing. And casually speaking, everybody in the military can name 20 motherfuckers out of a 100 that the military can not only do without but is probably better off without, haha. to put it TL;Dr: you are going out of your way to fool yourself if you think the manpower reductions will really have an effect on our posture, eg the ability to stand up and move mechanized formations, the ability to nuke shit, the ability to project naval power, etc.

The one thing I will 100% stand up for over the last 8 years is benefits have gone through the roof. The new GI bill is awesome. There are plenty of other educational benefits that have been introduced. AFAIK the Yellow Ribbon thing came in the last 8 years. VA loans/grants get better and better (and the VA homeowner loan is the best in the business IMO. And I hate to be partisan, but the only time this has been jeopardized was when Ratto was doing his 2013 government shutdown shit--because of his band of extremists, we in the military had to be told that we will be coming to work regardless of paychecks. (seriously, fuck the Tea Party, and and honest thanks to Donald Trump for being the surprising moderate conservative out of this bunch and helping bring the conservative base back to center)
