You nailed it, the Ruskis flood left-leaning areas of social media with anti-capitalist stuff and the right leaning areas of social media with 'woke' rage-bait.

The idea is to get as much of a percentage as possible of the left-leaning bulk of the US population to voluntarily remove themselves from the cycle of capitalism, for the explicit purpose of tanking the US's GDP...

...While also whipping up the right-leaning portion of the population specifically against things that would help everyone.

It's no secret that those who hold conservative ideology are often easily manipulated by being motivated by fear/hate and will vote people into office who are sympathetic to the US's enemies and exacerbate the above effect (re: Trump Tax overhaul)

Most of social media is just algorithms to foster addiction to scrolling using a method of variable ratio return schedules worked into how the apps display the content, coupled with an alrogithm to collect data.

So, it should surprise absolutely nobody that with little restriction on these highly addictive systems and none on data collection for tech companies, that our competition (or even bad actors like Russia and NKorea), would also try to slip in while the door is wide open...

This is exactly how tribalism is developed in democracies and is how electronic warfare can be used to kill an entire country.
