The Mindy Project Confessions of a Catho-holic

Since episode 1 of season 3 The Mindy Project has gone through a lot of changes. So has the titular character played by Mindy Kahling. Peter played by Adam Pally has left for Texas, Mindy has went and come back after a fellowship at Stanford and now she is in the process of starting her own practice. Her biggest change occurred when she found out that she was pregnant. I was unsure of this storyline. The pregnancy storyline is a tactic often used when they want to get the ratings up. I hope that I worried for nothing and the pregnancy continues in the direction it is going and Mindy continues to grow in a positive way.

We've seen in previous episodes how devoted Danny is to his Catholic faith. We know that he loves Mindy and is looking forward to his life as a father to their son. In Confessions of a Catho-holic Danny’s two loves collide and in sitcom fashion nothing goes as planned. After his priest dies while presiding over his confession, Danny asks Mindy to go to his funeral. During the service his new priest Father Michael O’Donnell introduces himself. After his personal confessions in front of the congregation Danny assumes confessing to him is going to be a breeze. He didn’t expect him to be a priest that upholds the churches more stern beliefs. While Danny tries to leave the service without being seen, Michael O’Donnell recognizes him and Mindy can’t help but introduce herself. While Mindy is taking selfies with a couple of priests Father O’Donnell mentions the gossip and rumors he has been hearing. Only able to take so much, Danny lies and says that Mindy is a Catholic. After some advice from Dr. Reed, Mindy decides to befriend Father Michael. She texts him to ask him over for dinner and while he expresses his excitement she learns of his lies. Together Danny and Mindy must prepare for an awkward visit from Father Michael.

Episode 19 of the 3rd season brought one of America’s favorite comedians to my television screen. Stephen Colbert portrayed Father Michael O’Donnell. Colbert is best known as the host of The Colbert Report and in his own life he is a devout Catholic not unlike his character. However not as strict, I assume. I hope to see Colbert return in further episodes if it returns for its fourth season.
