Minimalism vs Home Updates

I am in the same predicament.

I don't think there is a way to justify it because ultimately its an extravagant use of money.

There are many things our house needs to make it more efficient and, ultimately, greener. We can not move to a carbon neutral or negative future without these systemic changes. These things also must happen as these items have worn out with the only other option being to not have them. These include the switch from gas to electric appliances (washer, water heater, oven, and stove all need replaced), redoing the gutters, adding water capture systems or solar, refinishing the floors (as this increases their longevity).

However do I need a pond, exterior greenhouse, or indoor green space? I guess you could argue these could be helpful but certainly privileged. What about fresh paint, waterproofed basement flooring, and an updated countertop. These are purely aesthetic.
