I literally has this issue today. I was at work sine 10 AM, left at 9 PM

I worked my ass off all day, took a hit for my new manager’s mistakes (plural) and at the end of the night was having a conversation about the Jomon period in Japanese history, with my coworker who has her BA in history.

This MF (my head chef) gets mad at me for standing around talking, when there was nothing to do, and then when I start doing stuff and CONTINUED talking at the same time (because yes, I can chew gum and walk simultaneously) he yells at me again to just… just do the cutlery I was polishing… like… all that tells me is that you think what I care about is nonsense and that work time is FOOD time. No discussions about anything else.

I am not a server… that is my job title, but I am not a server. I like to learn about big picture things.

I’m honestly upset that I was scolded for delving into my interests. Why is my identity not permitted in the workplace??????
