Ministers urged to halt right-to-buy scheme. More than 40% of former council homes now rented out by private landlords

Good idea but how can one implement it when someone bought and paid for a property. It’s becomes private property and one can do whatever they want.

I think councils should stop selling public housing completely. They’ve been funded by the public and where the public’s share when they’re sold? They just keep raising council taxes and taxes in general. It’s just mismanagement.

I now notice more councils partnering with private property developers to build affordable homes for people to rent but they should keep an eye on that as they could get done over by the developers like a place in London I read about where a developer acquired council land on a promise to build affordable houses but then the cheapest ones were about over half a million quid. They should make them illegal to buy. To deter this.

It could be sorted but it’s the mindset of people to want to own their homes. I own my home but if I had ever got a decent council home in a nice area I wouldn’t care about owning it as for a small fee the councils fully maintain everything as they own the property. A colleague just had a full set of brand new windows, French doors, kitchen done and I had to pay £1500 just for a single outside door.

Many Europeans don’t ever own their homes but it’s a British and common wealth and American mentality to own your home.
