Minor forced to take unnecessary medication (Arkansas)

[–]SkyeFoxe 1 point 2 minutes ago  See http://www.sciencebasedmedicine.org/does-everybody-have-chronic-lyme-disease-does-anyone/: The belief that chronic Lyme disease exists is not supported by the evidence. It is a disservice to patients with unexplained symptoms to paste that label on them and treat them with potentially harmful long-term antibiotics. permalinksaveeditdisable inbox repliesdeletereply

If you actually getting sick from the medication, stop taking the pills. If she forces you (physically forces you) then call CPS. They can investigate. permalinksavereportgive goldreply [–]CrystalCove64[S] 4 points 3 hours ago  Okay, thank you. permalinksaveparentreportgive goldreply [–]wimwood 7 points 2 hours ago*  If you had Lyme, you would have gotten positives - or at least partial positives - on the Western Blot and/or ELISA tests. These are blood tests. Did you give blood? My daughter had actual Lyme disease when she was 7. We didn't figure out what it was til she was almost 8. She saw a pediatric infectious disease specialist at Georgetown University, and based on the bio-markers and symptoms, she had the infection for approx 6-8 months when she was diagnosed. She was prescribed an aggressive course of heavy-duty antibiotics that lasted 30 days. The antibiotics certainly upset her stomach. She didn't need any other sorts of supplements, although we kept her loaded with probiotic supplements due to the antibiotics. I also ended up with Lyme last year. Sounds crazy, but we live in a wooded rural area. Because I was caught early, it was 3wks of antibiotics and I've had no recurrence of symptoms since. My daughter ended up with arthritis in her knees, and took about 2 years to recover her educational ability. If someone thought you had Lyme, you'd be given specific blood tests to catch it. You'd feel terrible - aching cramping muscles, weakness, headaches, gross stomach issues, fatigue, and feel like your thoughts were being processed in pea soup. If you don't have any of these symptoms, and weren't given blood tests, then you're being treated by a quack, and your mother unfortunately has fallen for it. If that's the case, go to your guidance counselor and report it. Either they're both just totally wacked, or she or the doc is having a grand time with Munchausen's by Proxy. ETA: If they are indeed antibiotics (you can google the names of them), then the only thing worse than taking the full course when you don't need them, is to take them sporadically, whether you need them or not. This is exactly how all the various little living things in your body - whether they are normally a threat or not - build resistance to antibiotics and become a threat. permalinksavereportgive goldreply [–]thatsnotgneiss 5 points 3 hours ago  Are you still in high school? Talk to your guidance counselor or school nurse. They are mandated reporters if they believe what your mother is doing is harmful to you. Not a lawyer, but I am a daughter of a guidance counselor in Arkansas. permalinksavereportgive goldreply [–]lawnerdcanada 5 points 3 hours ago  How old are you and your brother? permalinksavereportgive goldreply [–]kerovon 6 points 3 hours ago  There is a very large amount of pseudoscience and quackery around Lyme disease, and based on your description, it sounds an awful lot like that would count. I would strongly recommend against taking the "medicine", because it probably is a supplement of some form and not actual FDA approved medicine. Supplements have very little supervision, and the actual content of supplements can be very different from what they are supposed to contain. permalinksavereportgive goldreply [–]CrystalCove64[S] 5 points 3 hours ago  The antibiotics give me stomach aches that hurt as bad as period cramps... I usually try and dispose of them when my mom isn't looking, but like I said I take around 20 pills everyday. permalinksaveparentreportgive goldreply [–]PenguinTod 8 points 2 hours ago  Do you know exactly what you are being given? Antibiotics in the US legally require a prescription to obtain, so the three options are that the doctor is legit (unlikely given the treatment plan you're describing), the doctor is doing something illegal, or you're misremembering. The last of these is most likely, but the second of those is an alarming possibility. permalinksaveparentreportgive goldreply [–]kerovon 4 points 2 hours ago  Where did you get the pills? Did he write a prescription that you took to a drug store? Did he give you a specific supplier or store to get them from? That can help determine if they are medicine or supplements to some degree. permalinksaveparentreportgive goldreply [–]placebo_addicted 3 points 3 hours ago  It's a terrible idea to not take antibiotics exactly as they are prescribed. You could be setting yourself up for a super infection that is resistant to treatment. Beg your mom to talk to the doctor about your side effects. Maybe there is a different drug that won't make you sick. permalinksaveparentreportgive goldreply [–]Lapinot 6 points 3 hours ago  And it's a better idea to not take antibiotics if you're not required to - and the OP seems to believe that there isn't an actual Lyme diagnosis. permalinksaveparentreportgive goldreply [–]placebo_addicted 5 points 3 hours ago  And it's a better idea to not take antibiotics if you're not required to No, it's a better idea to not take them in the first place if you don't, in fact, need them. It's a terrible idea to start taking them and stop early or take them at a lower dose than prescribed. permalinksaveparentreportgive goldreply [–]Lapinot 6 points 3 hours ago  I'm kind of wondering whether they're actual antibiotics, considering the sort of quack they might be dealing with, or something that's just being called an antibiotic. Regardless, it's a bad situation. permalinksaveparentreportgive goldreply [–]placebo_addicted 4 points 2 hours ago  Yes. I went to high school with a girl who was "prescribed" supplements for some imaginary muscle disease her mother insisted she had. It was like a cereal bowls worth every morning and another at night. My friend miraculously recovered from her ailments the day she left for college. permalinksaveparentreportgive goldreply [–]wimwood 3 points 2 hours ago  True, and I am going to ETA that. The only thing worse than taking them when you don't need them, would be to take them sporadically, whether you need them or not. permalinksaveparentreportgive goldreply [–]_silentheartsong 3 points an hour ago  Do you know exactly what you are being given? permalinksavereportgive goldreply

Go to a medical doctor as soon as practical. Not a naturopath, not a homeopath. Tell them what you're experiencing. Bring a sample of all the medicines that you're taking.
