The misguided hatred towards immigrants

You're aware that for civilization to function, we actually need nurses, janitors, teachers, factory workers, fruit pickers and customer service reps right? Jobs that are all notoriously low paying..

By "nothing prevents you from being rich" I assume you mean that everyone can work really hard at school, get scholarships, get into a good university, get a degree, get hired in their field and make heaps of money. Or alternatively everyone can work really hard in their spare time to start their own company or make and launch a successful game or whatever.

Okay so now, let's just say everyone does that. Everyone works super super hard, everyone has all A+'s at university or has their amazing super cool side project that's going to make heaps of money. Well, we still need nurses, janitors, teachers, factory workers, fruit pickers and customer service reps. Without those roles, everyone's startup collapses, there's no one to build & sell all these great new ideas and no one to gather the raw materials needed to make them. Some people have to fail.

Now, you might be alright with this system because whatever, the people who succeeded worked harder so they deserve it. But if to succeed you just have to work harder than everyone else.. then everyone is just going to keep working harder to make sure they do. You can already see this with how many more people have degrees now. If everyone starts working 18 hour days to make sure they get a good job, does the guy who works 17 hours not work hard enough? Does he not deserve to be comfortable? Where does this competition end? With who can handle the most stress before having a literal heart attack?

Even if you genuinely believe things like disabilities, nepotism, race, and socioeconomic background don't effect someones ability to succeed at all, meritocracies are a nightmare.
