Missing 10 y.o. girl from Winnipeg. Missing for almost a month.

Ok. Long post time. Beware all who enter.

I do not deny they have an effect on FN identity. I dont think any reasonable person does.

To go back :

May I suggest you original comment, "The fact that people think it's "in the past" is the problem." is BS. It is in the past. There is no reason to bring it up in an attempt to move forward. It is a move to play on emotions, on a very serious issue. Most people are educated on the situation, and know what happened. They know it was wrong. It is no ones responsibility to pay for mistakes of their ancestors. This super applies to the 1-30 age range (or immigrants) that grew up well after Church schools, and had no help or implementation of its process. Yadda yadda, its now a just, fair system for all races, and the younger generation is not responsible for it.

On the other hand, the new, young, generation of FN individuals (1-20 ish) are responsible for their actions and their communities. For the first time in any of their history, they have an equal playing field. Yes, on average they suffer from more poverty, etc. But they suffer the same problems as the a person of any race. It is no longer the race effecting their upward mobility. It is their social and economic situation. And thats OK. Thats not just. But its fair.

Now we just need to focus on creating social policies to help EVERYONE. Anyone who has poor family relations, no money, poor education, poor health. Anything.

Your "I don't see colour!" comment troubles me. I do see everyone equal as white. I see myself as been equal to a brown person as well. I don't know what you mean by it.

I dont understand your perspective on assimilation, but let me speak on it. I think it is a good thing. I do not think it is preventable. I think the reserve system slowed it down, and only caused problems. There are lots of happy minorities, who are able to assimilate into the Canadian culture and thrive, while keeping their own unique identities.

I would then argue, that reserve systems need to be destroyed. Communities in remote locations should not be supported, and that there should be a paid move (by choice) to locations that can support economic growth throughout Canada. No forced move, but one time move option. Reserves do not work. Its Apartheid.

I would also like to point out that there is no one left to blame for "the past". The vast majority of Canadians are not to blame. The majority responsible are old or dead. Most of the worst was done by the British Monarchy. Looking for solutions through blame is wrong. Unless they were politicians over the last 200 years, they were not responsible. And some of those politicians were FN.

TLDR, The solution is not bring up "its not in the past". Its about talking about viable solutions. "Its not in the past" does not lead to any solutions. It only misleads the truth away to a blame game, and takes responsibility away from FN Communities.
