Missing moggy finally comes home after 2011 floods

JUDITH-Rae White still rubs her eyes in disbelief at the sight of her beloved cat, Eddie Boy, curled up at the foot of her bed.

After the ginger tom went missing two and a half years ago in the 2011 floods, a heartbroken Ms White believed she would never see him again.

But in an unexpected twist, the 50-year-old woman was informed this week that Eddie Boy was alive and well in Bellbowrie.

"I'm still freaked out by it all. I haven't had a logical thought since I took the phone call," Ms White said.

"It was like a lost love reappearing and wanting to see you."

The former Goodna resident and her feline companion were separated in the wake of the 2011 floods when the disaster forced the pair out of their home.

When Eddie Boy went missing, Ms White said she spent months roaming Goodna, calling out to her pet while rattling a Whiskas box.

"The last time I went searching for him was Easter Thursday of that year," she said.

"I went down to the house in Goodna at about 9pm and broke down and cried. "I couldn't go back there again after that."

With no children, Ms White said the 11-year-old cat was her baby and she knew in her heart that he was still alive.

Fortunately, four days before his disappearance, Eddie Boy was microchipped.

Kerry Carson, who works at Bellbowrie Vet, said the chip implant was used to identify Ms White as the owner and reunite her with her lost pet.

"A family who lived a few streets away (from the vet) brought the cat in after they noticed it wandering around their house without a collar," she said.

Ms White said having her pet back was "nothing short of a miracle".

"That night we toasted with tuna juice and kissed and cuddled all night long," she said with a smile.

Ms White said it was still a mystery how Eddie Boy crossed Brisbane River to end up 26km away.

"It looks like he's really been through the mill," she said. "I don't think anyone has cared for him during the years he's been missing.

"I suspect he copped a boot to the face at some stage too because his nose looks like it's been broken and he's also got some gravel embedded in him."

Ms White said the happy ending was a message for pet owners to get their animals microchipped.
