Mitch McConnell just introduced a bill to raise the smoking age to 21 - but lobbyist records show that Altria (Philip Morris) told him to do it. Here's why.

Four bills to increase the legal smoking age to 21 were introduced last month -- and there's evidence linking all but one of them to Altria, the company that owns Philip Morris and Juul.

This article gives evidence that several US politicians spoke with Altria, took their money, and put through bills they'd ask for it - as well as proof that, if passed, the bills would actually weaken restrictions on tobacco products.

Personally, I don't care whether the legal smoking age goes up to 21 or not -- but it's troubling to have hard proof that they're putting through tobacco control bills requested by tobacco companies, and pretty solid proof that other things like this really do happen all the time.
