Mobile Podcast Equipment

I’m very casual with my podcasting and make edits for quality in post. My video/mobile set up is just two things: A Zoom H1N audio recorder (~$120) and a Sony ECMCS3 lavalier mic (~$20).

It’s cheap and pretty effective; gets the job done. I wanted something that would be easy to use and also present well on video as I just started a YouTube version of the podcast. I went for a lavalier mic since it’s a bit more discreet. The real power is in the Zoom H1N which gives a pretty good preamp boost to the mic, and records at much better quality as a result.

I can record on the go and store hours of content on the Zoom with replaceable batteries, or through phantom power by plugging into a computer or camera while recording. I edit the audio in Adobe Audition to give myself a bit more bass and to regulate the levels as well as silence ambient noise. I think it’s comparable audio to my Rode NT-USB which I use for my actual sit-down podcasting setup. (~$180, not quite as portable.)
