[MOD] The Official Noob-Tastic Question Fest

I am looking for an automatic drip coffee and I have noticed Technivorm has been talked about on various sites. I currently use a Keurig but I would like to have less waste and have better tasting coffee. I considered going back to an Ibrik (might be wrong term) but I simply don't have the time anymore and I don't really have any functionality in the morning so I'd like to keep it as automated as possible.

TLDR

  1. Is Technivorm/moccamaster worth the cost and if so how long do they normally last?
  2. Are there any cheaper alternatives to moccamaster (notice Bonavita mentioned in browsing but haven't heard of them prior) and what are the downsides for cheaper alternatives?
  3. Does the SCA have useful recommendations? I know other associations tend to be bought from my understanding so I'm unsure if their recommendations are valid or not.
  4. With COVID19 what are some good alternatives for coffee beans since for me most local coffee roasters are closed.
