[MODPOST] Official Meltdown Thread

r/arrow's response to this proved to me that they are as irrational as the crazed Olicity fans and I've lost a lot of respect for it.

One thing needs to be set straight: Olicity is not what made the show tank in season 4. Two characters in a relationship were not the problem. Characters cannot be the problem. Leveling criticism at a relationship is absurd. The idea that it could never work doesn't make sense. Olicity will be as good as its written to be. The problem was the writing. It was always the writing. It took a steep downturn in season 4 and it showed. Their relationship was melodramatic and hyper-focused on and deserving of the ire it received. When the sub bitched about Olicity at the time, I assumed they were mocking its execution and simplifying it for jokes but actually understood the underlying issue. I was wrong.

The past season and a half, have been generally been praised on the sub. The action is better, the villains are better, other characters get more focus. But you raged when Oliver and Felicity got back together. Why? Their rekindling didn't take up a lot of screentime. Felicity isn't blubbering in tears every 10 minutes anymore. The whole wedding thing was standard CW romantic fare. Ya'll sincerely believe that two characters being together are what made the show turn to shit and its insane to me why you can't see that that's ridiculous. Olicity is currently as cheesily written as any other CW relationship. So why r/arrow is just having its biggest knee-jerk reaction yet?
