MODs and Steam

I'm not completely against this idea of paid for mod content, however i'd be much more in favour of a better system, some suggestions for you to consider.

  • Mods have to be reviewed by the games developer & possibly valve in order to see if they are worthy of becoming paid for content. not only should this make mods improve greatly but it would also help justify the fee game developers take other than just taking a cut because they made the original game.

  • Mods that end up with support being dropped and no longer being updated removed from the store and any purchases of that mod refunded, or have it in the terms and conditions that the game developer would need to fix the mod in this situation.

  • Possibly review the cut valve will take, obviously cover the costs of hosting but if this is truly to make a better situation for modders maybe it isn't a good idea to take the same cut as you do from game sales and then have the game developer also taking a large cut. I've seen the posts about the developers setting the percentage however i feel valve should be trying to push as hard as you can to make it a better deal for modders, as you have stated multiple times that this is meant to be beneficial to them and to the players, currently we aren't seeing this.

  • Never allow a game developer / publisher to attempt to lock down modification of a game unless it's going through steam works / steam paid mod content, No matter how much money they offer you while it might make you rich it would be detrimental to the PC gaming community.

  • Have a tough policy on plagiarism, it's already started and it really isn't cool.

  • Give me a job.

This could be a revolution for PC gaming, it just needs steering in a better direction than the one you have started.
