Mom diagnosed with advanced cancer, Boss tells me to suck it up

Go OP! I wish I had done this in a similar situation a few years back. I had just started working in a small office when bitch boss made half of the staff redundant and handed me their work without any notice or compensation. My mum had just been diagnosed with malignant tumors in her throat and I asked for time off (working 14+ hrs a day for crap pay) so I could support her through her surgery and recovery, but was denied because I was on probation and hadn't earned it. She also told me that her husband had terminal leukemia and she traveled to a different state to work each week so if she could do that I should be fine about my mum.

Over the next few months I was privvy to her emails (being her impromptu personal assistant which was not my paid role) where head office in her home state were offering her better roles to be closer to her family. She had 5 kids attended to by a nanny and they would call her daily saying they missed her. After a champagne fueled work function I asked her why she chose this instead of taking the position closer to home and her family and she just went off her brain about how it was none of my business. I guess it wasn't, but after that she was a nightmare to me. Outright bullying. I figured it wasn't a financial issue seen as her husband gifted her a racehorse for her birthday, she wore designer suits, and lived in a 5 star hotel during the working week at her own expense.

I decided to quit being miserable and even though I didn't have to give notice I gave her a courteous 4 weeks, after which I was moving overseas to try something new. That weekend I was in an accident and while I was in hospital having surgery, she terminated my employment without pay. I always wished I had somehow avenged the dignity she took by treating me so badly.

I was speaking to a former colleague a few months ago who told me her husband had sadly passed away. And now she was on leave because she had cancer too. Well I feel terrible for her kids, but for her? Nope. Maybe I'm an asshole, but have never met a grade A bitch like her.

TLDR: sometimes karma takes petty revenge on psycho bitches anyway.
