Want to take a moment to acknowledge OLDBOY for being my gateway into the insane brilliance of Korean cinema.
Here are a few that aren't often mentioned:
Cold Eyes - trailer - high tech surveillance action/thriller. Kinda like a Korean Enemy of the State. Excellent pacing and fun.
Midnight Runners - trailer - Mismatched cops comedy/actioner that gets better as it progresses. Does a great job of mixing comedy and drama/thriller.
Fabricated City - trailer - Cyber/VR thriller that is absolutely ridiculous (in good and silly ways).
Green Fish - Lee Chang-dong does gangster film.
Guns and Talk - trailer - Hired killers movie starring Won Bin (Man from Nowhere/Mother), Shin Hyeon-jun (Shadowless Sword/Marrying the Mafia series), Shin Ha-kyun (Save the Green Planet, Mr Vengeance, Villainess), Jeong Jae-yeong (Castaway on the Moon)
Arahan - trailer - Comedy "urban" martial arts that is funny and enjoyable, but some plot points seem to have been lost in editing(?).
Silmido - trailer - Korean Dirty Dozen-esque movie based on a true event.
Marrying the Mafia 2 - trailer - sequel in name/theme only so no need to see the inferior 1st entry.
Breathless - trailer - Street gangster and teen girl form strange friendship.
Secretly Greatly - trailer - North korean spy goes undercover in South korea and takes on the role of an idiot in fish out of water-style comedy actioner.
A Company Man - trailer - Professional assassin who wants out-film. Pretty standard plot but executed very well and with some first rate action scenes and fight sequences.
Hindsight - trailer - Song Kang-ho as "retired" mobster and Shin Se-Kyung is a beautiful assassin who develop friendship during a cooking class. Story is a bit derivative, but carried by style and charisma of two main leads.
The Berlin File trailer - International espionage thriller by Ryu Seung-wan starring Ha Jung-woo (Yellow Sea/Chaser/1987) and
Crying Fist trailer - Boxing film about down and out has been and the delinquent never has been as they find meaning thru boxing.
The Witch Part 1 : Subversion - trailer - Horror/thriller/sci-fi film that feels like a New Mutants-type movie.
