"Mommy Dearest" is not a comedy

Maybe it’s because I’m gay, but I enjoy it for the camp. And Faye Dunaway’s over the top performance. But I agree the story itself is extremely uncomfortable, and I did fall down the Wikipedia blackhole of the real story. Joan was a fuckin lunatic. The most important thing about the movie it gave a name to the kind of mothers we deal with, Mommy Dearest. Other than that it is an objectively bad movie. Maybe a critical re-evaluation is in order? One that takes into account how mental health and personality disorders are looked at today? Enjoy for the camp, shiver at the narciness of Joan Crawford. And to her daughter, you got the last laugh and revealed the truth about the Hollywood Icon. You go girl, knock ghost bitch down some pegs.
