I mean theyre clearly trying right, at least since gen 4. Cosmic space and time dragons, evil corportation wanting to remake the universe, Literal pokemon God and the devil, this is all FF territory. Pokemon is also a jrpg, and theres kids movies with more character depth than your average FF game, no reason why pokemon shouldnt be better.

Also pokemon should just bite the bullet and change their combat system. Look they clearly want to, its why they keep adding these 1gen gimics everything from megaevolution to Terrastalisation. Clearly GF knows the whole 4 move thing is abit stale. It feels like an Old v New tug of war, and if people are okay with all these 1gen gimics theyll be okay with a new combat syst
