Money for Safe Streets, Schools Hang in the Balance Amid State Funding Fight

So, the Democratic leadership in the General Assembly set this up by fencing off things they thought were important, as well as things Hogan felt were important. Safe Streets and some of the school funding were things Hogan found important AND Democratic leadership found important. Now, because he doesn't want to fund some of the ridiculous things, he can't fund these important things either (even though both sides wanted it). The Governor's Office made it clear that, if this happened, there was a good chance he wouldn't be able to fund any of the things both sides found important, but they went this route anyway.

My point is this: Democratic leadership set this up to not get funded, knowing the situation, and now cry and act like this is wholly on the Governor. In reality, they could have still fenced off a number of items without impacting Safe Streets and schools.

FWIW, they're looking into other ways to get money to Safe Streets, both through executive funding and through Office of Crime Control and Prevention, but it won't be as much as the administration wanted to give them. They're also exploring increased requests through other routes as well.
