The Mongol Destruction of Baghdad and it's consequences have been a disaster for the human race.

The ethnic Arab caste of the ruling class in the region was non-existent and irrelevant. Ethnic Arabs held no position of power in any of the bureaucracy of the dominant empires of the time (during the late 13th century specifically).

This was owed to the introduction of the mamluks, basically slaves that were given delicate positions of powers due to their lack of noble heritage/familial ties with literally anyone, so they were considered only loyal to their master. These slaves eventually took over Sultanates such as Egypt, Persia and the Delhi Sultanate usually in a coup or in the case of Egypt lack of any reliable successor. This was unique because for the first time ever in the middle east existed an elective slave kingdom that also had a private slave army.

Basically with the Seljuk conquests every ruler in the region was either Turks, Iranians and later mongols. Arabs were completely out of the picture after al-Mu’tasim hired a private army of a few thousand turkic slaves back in 10th century.
