Monsta X's Jooheon Demonstrates "Black Man English" on Radio Star

It's how South Korea is as a society. A lot of people on here (international fans) live in places where diversity exists. In the U.S, people are exposed to all sorts of cultures. In South Korea, a lot of people grow/grew up ONLY seeing other Korean people.

It's ignorance. Of course, times are changing and they are being exposed to diversity as you can see in the Korean media and what not. But there is still this general ignorance among South Koreans. A lot of people have this one track mind of what is right and what is wrong. People believe and are adjusted to one ideology. South Korea is still pretty much a conservative country.

All this shit with idols being racist and sexist stems from that. They don't think they're saying anything wrong. They grew up learning that. It really is sad, but it's something that can't really be avoided. It's like sex ed, if you're not educated, you really can't know shit. This is also why I don't really watch shows like SMTM and listen to mainstream rappers in SK. Their idea of Hip hip is pretty shallow. You can clearly see that on how they dress and talk on the show. Sure being interested in all aspects in the Hip hop culture is fine, but when you suck at rapping and waddle around in "Hip hop" clothing and scream turn up every 5 seconds, it kind of shows the little knowledge they have on the genre. I'm am definitely talking about the judges as well as the contestants. A lot of SKn people get into Hip hop because they think it's cool to "talk like a black man" and because they like "tough/rough" concept of the genre.

I remember a Radio Star episode with Swings and San E and they were talking about how to "talk" Hip hop. Established rappers in South Korea. Teaching people how to "talk Hip hop".

So the next time you see something like this just keep in mind where they're coming from and take pity on them instead of getting angry.
