MONTESSORI. Yay or nay?

I worked in a Montessori preschool/kindergarten. The philospohy of Montessori isn't always translated into schools in the US. The school where I worked was a certified Montessori school, though I only saw some principles implemented. Be careful with the one you choose. I saw a lot of the brightest kids become bored by the repetition and lack of challenging opportunities. Children choose what they do a lot of the time, and some children chose the same thing over and over because it was easier, but they also were not really advancing. The school where I worked had few college educated teachers, and just as few who had never taken a single Montessori course. This school was the elite school in the area where I lived, and the school people bragged that their children were getting the very best od everything because it was expensive and the building was nice. They were big on teaching very young children things to impress the parents, such as the planets and countries on a map, when they had no understanding of what they were memorizing. I don't mean to be a Debbie Downer, as I do very much like the Montessori philosophies and practices when it is truly carried out, and the school doesn't just pander to parents. I wish you the very best of luck!
