Her body absorbs only a small amount of what she eats thanks to sticky mucus that blocks ducts in the pancreas and prevents enzymes from reaching the small intestine to digest food. Even with enzyme supplements to help digest fats, it’s very hard to maintain a healthy weight and avoid become malnourished or deficient in important vitamins. Thankfully she has a huge appetite because it is common to need a feeding tube, appetite stimulants, or supplement with a lot of protein shakes. Weight directly correlates with lung function so it’s even more important that she weighs enough.
