Monthly What are My Chances? Thread

**Year in school :** last year of 3 year general science degree (micro focus - unsure whether I want to pursue 4 year micro major).

2-year chemical engineering tech diploma (completed)
Country/state of residence: Canada Schools to which you are applying: Umanitoba (IP and primary interest) but anywhere I can in Canada Cumulative GPA: ~3.75-3.8 / 4.5 Science GPA: not sure the difference but AGPA (adjusted) will be ~4.3/4.5 MCAT Scores: 1st = 26 (VR 6, PS 10, BS 10), 2nd = 27 (VR 8, PS 8, BS 11) - was taking full course loads during MCAT studying and did not get to apply nearly as much time as I should have but wanted to avoid the new MCAT Research: None as of now but confirmed job in a lab doing research full-time in synthetic bio/biochemistry for 16 weeks of summer Volunteering (clinical): Over 300+ in hospital (medical wards, emergency, and surgery doing a large variety of tasks and lots of patient contact) - currently 4 hours a week Physician shadowing: Tried pursuing this at a variety of places but simply not an option without personally knowing the physician in MB Non-clinical volunteering: None Extracurricular activities: Long-distance running. Pre-med Society. Employment history: Ex-primary care paramedic for a little over a year. Worked in many very rural communities (some accessible only by chopper without cell service, etc). Experienced a lot of exposure to rural medicine (working with lack of resources/personnel, etc) where I was quite often working on my own. Taught CPR + acquired a bunch of certifications (ACLS, CPR for HCP's, ICS 100, etc).
Volunteer Fire Fighter for 2 years with a wide assortment of training (much of it probably not relevant).
Many other jobs in the mining industry (assay labs, X-ray spectroscopy, sample prep) probably not to relevant either.

**Immediate family members in medicine?:** No. No one in my entire extended family (that we know) with a full university degree
**Specialty of interest:** Dermatology
**Graduate degrees:** None
**Interest in rural health:** Yes.

I'm a non-traditional applicant (28yo) with a Metis background from a rural community up north. I'd most likely return to my home-town after finishing med and while I'd prefer to stay in MB I'll be applying everywhere I can. I have an excellent relationship with my old paramedicine company and thus some solid recommendation letters available from them (and others from volunteering). I've been fortunate enough to have a lot of time to live in various places and trial and error various career paths so I'm 100% sure about my passion for a future in medicine.

My current issue is how I should proceed during the next year before application to the 2016 cycle. (Pursue 4 year micro major?, re-write MCAT?, work in a lab?, expand resume?, etc)
