Year in school: First year masters student (in a two year program) Country/state of residence: Virginia Schools to which you are applying: All VA schools, Maryland, Dartmouth, Temple, Jefferson, Michigan, Northwestern, Brown, Tulane, Emory, Case Western, Mayo, Einstein, Columbia, Hofstra, SUNY Downstate, Penn State, Keck maybe? I need some help with this Cumulative GPA: 3.61 strong upward trend (increased GPA every semester) Science GPA: 3.59 Graduate Degrees: MSc in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (~3.95 GPA) MCAT Scores: 518, 128/128/131/131 Research – include any abstracts/posters/publications and how you were credited (eg. First author, senior author, etc): Biochemistry research, full time over the summer and ~15hrs per week now (~700 hrs total), about to switch to a new lab where I'll be doing work/study for the next year. Volunteering (clinical) – include hours/sites: ~100 hours at free clinic for underserved people, ~30 hours at a hospital in Guatemala, ~10 hours through American Cancer Society, ~5 hours in a children's hospital Physician shadowing – include hours/specialties: 35 hours in radiation oncology, 65 hours in genetic counseling and with a general surgeon in consultations, 200+ hours in pathology, 4 hours in podiatry, Internship in surgical pathology department (at a different place) for about 160hrs Non-clinical volunteering: Volunteer at a zoo's touch tank (70hr), Volunteer at cancer survivor support group (20hr), Teaching sex ed at a local school (22hr), Collecting old slides and blocks for a non-profit's research (60hr), a bunch of miscellaneous things adding up to about 90hrs Extracurricular activities: Sorority (carried several leadership and executive positions), recruitment counselor for Panhellenic, equestrian team, several intramural sports, leadership program, recruiter for leadership and honors program, biology honor society, Greek leadership honor society, studied abroad over the summer Employment history: Part time in retail for 5 months (is this even relevant though?), Next year will be full time in work/study for research (only paid for 19hr/week) LORs: Committee letter (maybe?) - if not, then just one science and one non-science from undergrad, one grad school professor, PI/department head, two MDs (one I shadowed, one I did an internship with), administrator at the free clinic, possibly could get one from my new PI, too --- all should be pretty strong, or at least average Immediate family members in medicine? (y/n): both parents Specialty of interest: Oncology, surgery Interest in rural health (y/n): Not really
