Morale Question

I want to say, as someone coming in (probably going to sign 6 year, probably going to end up airborne linguist) this has been one of my primary concerns. I want to contribute, beyond just doing my job completely and efficiently, to the morale of other members of the Air Force. I've asked myself what it will take to improve the experience of other Airmen and it's an extremely difficult question. Considering I've only gotten preliminary droplets of what the culture of the Air Force is like, it is especially difficult to speculate on what will effectively improve morale.

I want to neutralize bureaucratic power struggles and implant the roots of a truly united Air Force. I can only hope that I will be able to identify those Airmen who take their work seriously to a truly appropriate degree and see that such respect towards the mission be rewarded with recognition and learned from.

In this goal I must ignore the jeering of the hecklers, the embittered doubters and saboteurs, but most of all I will struggle with myself not to become one. Finding ways to bring light, relief, and most of all, reason and meaning to the daily struggles will require a creative mind, and a highly sensitive receptivity to the insights of my predecessors.

The ability to generate morale among military men and women is truly an art, and an invaluable one at that. I hold no false pretenses about being the great man who accomplishes such a task to any significant degree, but nonetheless I hope that recognizing and appreciating it will allow me to support that great man when I meet him and perhaps borrow some of his tricks.
