More attempts being made to "take down" Misha's charity.

Yeah, it just struck me as questionable timing. I totally get your second paragraph - that would have been awesome. But that's not what happened. One of the charities, a particular one, seems to be under consistent attack and that does influence my decision of which one to support, today at least. To have a thread about Misha's charity being under attack and then pipe up with "but support Jensen's charity too!" just seems... poor timing? I do get your broader point but the timing here seems off, tbh.

On a broader scale - setting aside today's particular fanwank thing - I can't support every charity, not even every SPN-cast-supported charity, and I will freely admit that seeing megalists of all charities and feeling pressured to support everything actually has the opposite effect on me. It tends to shut me down! So that I don't give anything at all.

Spent too much of my life working for nonprofits, maybe... pretty disillusioned with all of it after close to a half century of in-the-trenches charity work. (I'm writing this while in a hotel lobby waiting to give an invited talk to the board of trustees of a major charity) I look at my project budgets and know that all those little ten-dollar and even hundred-dollar donations people make are literally worthless. They cost more in admin and bookkeeping than they're worth. It's only the rich people like Gates who can have an impact. Best I can do is do - seriously, the biggest impact I can have - is go beg the billionaires for money and try to turn it around to something useful. So off I go in half an hour to give my little talk to the board. sigh

completely stressed about this talk btw...

Anyway, ironically it's all shut me down enough that when I feel a sudden charitable impulse I have to ride it. Even if it's imperfectly directed or even if I didn't fully consider all options.
