It seems like you and pretty much everyone else in this thread somehow didn't get the joke. Time after time, people fail to recognize that the picture and the title are supposed to be taken together. You can't fully experience the submission with one and not the other.

The joke is about a common mistake that most of us have made: writing the previous year at the beginning of a new year. Maybe most of you would have laughed and upvoted it if it were posted in text format on a different subreddit (e.g. "First time. Fucking nailed it. I wrote the date with the correct year on the first day of the year."). I think the reason you all think it's a shitpost is because you're under the impression that /r/pics is supposed to be a place for pictures that are interesting on their own without a title to accompany and add to it. That's what /r/pic is for. I bet if the stated purpose of the subreddit were to post title/picture combo jokes, you'd think OP's submission was at least mildly amusing.

As long as you're not opposed to pictures and titles being used in conjunction to form a complete idea, then you might enjoy this type of content. If you do oppose it, for whatever arbitrary reason, then you're basically not allowing yourself to laugh. I'm actually genuinely curious. Why do most of you have a problem with this form of content? Is it because you wanted a place with nothing but interesting pictures, and you didn't know /r/pic existed?
