More details revealed as teenagers make first court appearance for Lee's Summit homicide

It is extremely important to remember that these two people who are charged with this crime are both children. I'm so tired of this whole "DEATH PENALTY, IDGAF ABOUT AGE" shit. They were children. Should we put 6 year olds who steal candy bars in the checkout at Price Chopper in county jail? Should 5th grade boys who get into a fight that causes a bloody nose to the Department of Corrections with the rest of the adults?

Kids make mistakes. We as a society have decided that children shouldn't face the same punishment as adults, given that they simply CANNOT understand the implications of their decisions. These two boys probably knew that what they were doing was wrong, absolutely. However, at 13 I did all kinds of shit that I knew was wrong. No, I never hurt anyone physically, but I threw rocks through windows and tore down neighbors fences and raised all kinds of hell. Should I have been treated the same as an adult? No, because I was a child.

I think its ridiculous that we have a justice system which under "certain conditions" can charge mere children as adults and have them answer for their crimes in the same way an adult would. Those same children just before their crimes were committed however, were not allowed to make any adult decisions. It doesn't make any sense. If the ONLY adult decision you're allowed to make is to commit crime, and none else, there's a serious problem in our legal system.

I think Dave Chappelle said it best, alluding to the fact that by law a 15-year old doesn't have the capacity to consent to sex (or in this specific jokes case, "golden showers"), but does have the capacity to understand the implications of killing someone.

"If you think it's okay to give a 15-year old boy life in prison, then it better be okay to pee on him also"
