More facts

I personally would say no. It's a console game which is now on a new platform.

Much like films when a game was released is very important for how good I would consider the game.

Mario Bros and Tetris are two of the best and most important computer games ever made, but by todays standard they're no better than most mobile games (aside from the fact there's no P2W). But they will always be classics that shaped the gaming landscape. Other games can see further by standing on the shoulders of those giants.

Again to use a movie comparison, playing Mario is like watching Chaplin movies. If you watched it today there's nothing ground breaking about them. But at the time they push physical comedy and use of camera as far as it had gone. Playing Mario now is nothing ground breaking (but it's still fun to play) but at the time it was a game changer.
