You know it in brunei, they say don’t get too ambitious.

Dr zul got into trouble because he was too ambitious for his own good. He wanted to change Brunei’s Healthcare system drastically as per Sultan’s titah. And he’s doing it following Uk’s model to be cost effective and more efficient, so that we can have the world class healthcare.

But his mistake was to close Tutong hospital. In his mind, he was right to do this because it’s just a small hospital and Tutong’s patients can just go to bandar since it’s only 30-40 mins away. And I think Tutong hospital was closed for a while.

Then istana got lots of complaint letters from the public. One letter that stood out was about a pregnant woman who has to go all the way to bandar for delivery and didn’t make it on time. It was just hand written simple letter.

But that got Hm’s attention, so Dr zul was immediately replaced. Kekejaman and unfairness were the reasons. Just go back to Hm’s titah around that time. It said along the line ‘..even if we want to be efficient don’t neglect others rights..’

So I guess it’s the same with Datin E. Yes, you’re right. She’s just doing her job. But people can see that she is also power hungry and manipulative, so after the case was over, she was ‘not needed anymore’.

If you have worked in government before, you would understand what I am talking about. This is Brunei. Just do your job and don’t get too ambitious. All power belongs to Hm and his small group of elites people in the istana. They’re smart and cunning people. You don’t want to mess with them. And they can sniff people with bad intentions and power hunting from miles away.

Dato Amin liew is a smart guy. He is the minister of finance but he knows and understands his limits. There is one topic you’re never allowed to discuss that is istana’s expenditure and he never has. Good for him. Him and Dato Abu bakar Apong can stay because they understand very well istana’s politics.
